WHAT IS A STUDENT COUNCIL?
A Student Council is a representative structure for students only, through which they work in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students.
Our Student council is made up of one student from each class in 1st to 5th year and two students from each 6th year class.
STUDENT COUNCIL ACTIVITIES
The student council are involved in many activities in the school which includes:
- Liaising with the Principal on issues of concern to students
- Involvement in school planning and school policies
- Assisting at school events for example our Open Evenings and most recently our ETBI Ethos Showcase
- Fund raising
Most recently the Student Council have had important input in:
- Changing and designing a new PE top for the students which is now an established part of our school uniform
- Introduction of vegetarian options in lunch menu from O’Shea's
- Reintroduction of lockers following Covid 19 restrictions
- Reviewing several school policies, most recently our Healthy Eating policy in 2022.
- Naming our brand new ASD unit; Le Chéile
Under the the government's National Strategy of Including Children and Young People in Decision Making 2015 - 2020 we value our student voice, respect and care about the fundamental role our students play in developing Borris Vocational School as leading centre of excellence in education.
